Social Responsibility cannot be left to Governments alone: Governor

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that social responsibility cannot be left to governments alone and that citizens and committed organizations have an important role to play in identifying societal needs and addressing them effectively. He was speaking after inaugurating the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Gandhi Bhavan International Trust at Gandhi Bhavan, Pathanapuram, Kollam. The Governor called upon citizens to move beyond personal concerns and work for the larger social good.

The Governor lauded the trust's founders and volunteers for overcoming numerous challenges to build a lasting institution focused on public welfare. He urged society to draw inspiration from such service-oriented efforts and actively contribute to community development. Addressing the gathering, the Governor praised Gandhi Bhavan for its sustained commitment to society, particularly in the fields of healthcare, education, and welfare of the specially-abled. He said the institution's journey over the past 25 years stands as a model of selfless service inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's ideals.

The Governor emphasized the importance of Indian cultural values and appreciated Gandhi Bhavan's initiatives to establish educational institutions rooted in Bharatiya traditions. The celebrations reflected Gandhi Bhavan's enduring mission of compassion, service, and social transformation.

The Governor also presented awards to former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan, Industrialist-poet Shri Sohan Roy for their dedicated service. Swami Subhangananda, Dr. Punalur Somaran and other dignitaries were present at the function.

Governor's condolence

Hon'ble Governor of Kerala, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, has condoled on the sad demise of Swami Muni Narayana Prasad ji, a revered spiritual teacher, scholar, and head of the Narayana Gurukula Foundation.

In his message, the Governor said that Swami Muni Narayana Prasad ji carried forward the timeless message of Sree Narayana Guru with great wisdom, clarity, and compassion. His profound contributions in philosophy, spiritual thought, and in universal values have left an enduring impact on society.

The Governor noted that his life and teachings will continue to inspire generations to come. The Governor recalled that the contributions of Muni, especially towards the betterment of weaker sections will always be remembered.

He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the followers, disciples, and admirers of the departed soul, and prayed that his soul attains mukti.

ചരിത്രാവിഷ്കാരങ്ങളെ പുനഃപരിശോധിക്കണം: ഗവർണർ

കേരള ഗവർണർ ശ്രീ രാജേന്ദ്ര വിശ്വനാഥ് ആർലേക്കർ നിലവിലുള്ള ചരിത്രാവിഷ്കാരങ്ങളെ പുനഃപരിശോധിക്കുകയും, അവയെ വിമർശനാത്മകമായി വിലയിരുത്തുകയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതുണ്ടെന്ന് അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. അധിനിവേശകരുടെ 'താല്പര്യങ്ങൾക്ക്' അനുസരിച്ച് എഴുതപ്പെട്ടവയാണ് പല ചരിത്രരേഖകളും എന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി. ഡോ. പി. രാധാകൃഷ്ണൻ നായർ രചിച്ച "10000 വർഷത്തെ ഭാരത ചരിത്രം: സത്യവും മിഥ്യയും" എന്ന പുസ്തകം പുറത്തിറക്കിയ ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.

തന്റെ പ്രസംഗത്തിൽ, ഇന്ത്യയുടെ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയ ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ വലിയൊരു ഭാഗം അധിനിവേശകരുടെ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടിൽ നിന്നാണ് എഴുതപ്പെട്ടതെന്നും, ഇത് പലപ്പോഴും തലമുറകളായി ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യാതെയാണ് സ്വീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടതെന്നും ഗവർണർ പറഞ്ഞു. മാക്സ് മുള്ളർ പോലുള്ള പണ്ഡിതരെ പരാമർശിച്ച ഗവർണർ, ചില വിദേശ ചരിത്രകാരന്മാർ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളും സംസ്കാരവും വ്യാഖ്യാനിച്ച രീതികൾ പിന്നീട് തെറ്റുകൾക്കും പക്ഷപാതങ്ങൾക്കും വിധേയമായതായി കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും പറഞ്ഞു. സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യാനന്തര ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് ഇത്തരം ചരിത്രാവിഷ്കാരങ്ങളെ പുനഃപരിശോധിക്കാൻ അവസരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും, പലപ്പോഴും പഴയ മാതൃകകളിൽ തന്നെ ആശ്രയിച്ചു വന്നു എന്നും അദ്ദേഹം അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യാനന്തര അക്കാദമിക് പ്രവണതകളിലും ആവശ്യമായ തിരുത്തലുകൾ വന്നില്ലെന്ന ആശങ്കയും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു. ചരിത്ര വ്യാഖ്യാനങ്ങളെ പുനഃപരിശോധിക്കാൻ നടത്തുന്ന ശ്രമങ്ങൾ പലപ്പോഴും യുക്തിസഹമായ അടിസ്ഥാനമില്ലാതെ എതിർക്കപ്പെടുന്നതായും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.

സാംസ്കാരിക തുടർച്ചയെ എടുത്തുകാട്ടിയ ഗവർണർ, ഈ സാംസ്കാരിക ഐക്യതയാണ് ദേശീയ ഐക്യത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനം എന്നും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു. മറ്റു രാജ്യങ്ങളുമായി താരതമ്യം ചെയ്ത്, ദേശീയ പ്രതീകങ്ങളോടും സാംസ്കാരിക പൈതൃകത്തോടും ഉള്ള ആദരവാണ് ശക്തമായ ദേശീയ തിരിച്ചറിവിന് അനിവാര്യമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. ഇൻഡോനേഷ്യ പോലുള്ള രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ മതഭൂരിപക്ഷം വ്യത്യസ്തമായിരുന്നാലും സാംസ്കാരിക പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഉദാഹരണം അദ്ദേഹം ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.

ചരിത്രത്തെ വ്യക്തതയോടും കൂടി പുനരാവിഷ്കരിക്കാൻ പണ്ഡിതന്മാരും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളും പൊതുജനങ്ങളും സജീവമായി മുന്നോട്ടുവരണമെന്ന് ഗവർണർ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തു. തെളിവുകളെയും സമതുലിതമായ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടിനെയും അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള ചരിത്രബോധം ഉറപ്പാക്കാൻ സംയുക്ത ശ്രമം ആവശ്യമാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

Governor Calls for Re-examining Historical Narratives

The honourable Governor of Kerala, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has called for re-examining the present historical narratives and critically examining them as they were penned by invaders to suit their 'interests'. He was speaking after releasing the book "10000 Years of Bharatiya History: Truth and Myth" authored by Dr. P. Radhakrishnan Nair here today.

In his address, the Governor said that much of India's recorded history had been written by invaders, often reflecting their perspectives and interests. He observed that such narratives frequently led to distortions, which were accepted unquestioningly over generations. "It is common for invaders to write history in a manner that justifies their actions," he said, adding that India, unlike many other civilizations, did not have a tradition of invading other lands and imposing its version of history.

The Governor highlighted how these distortions were not just limited to colonial narratives but extended further back in time. He pointed to widely debated theories such as the Aryan invasion theory, which, he said, had been presented without sufficient evidence and propagated through academic systems for decades. He recalled his own school days when such ideas were taught as unquestionable facts, illustrating how deeply embedded these perspectives had become.

Referring to scholars like Max Müller, the Governor remarked that interpretations of Indian texts and culture by some foreign historians had later been questioned for inaccuracies and bias. He stressed that independent India had an opportunity to reassess such narratives but often continued to rely on inherited frameworks. He also expressed concern that even in post -independence academic trends, necessary corrections were not made. He argued that efforts to revisit historical interpretations are sometimes met with resistance, often without substance.

Emphasizing cultural continuity, the Governor described India as a civilization bound by shared cultural and philosophical traditions. He noted that this cultural identity transcends religious differences and forms the basis of national unity. Drawing a comparison with other countries, he said that respect for national icons and cultural heritage is essential for fostering a strong sense of identity. Citing examples from countries like Indonesia, he highlighted how cultural traditions continue to be preserved even in societies with different religious majorities.

The Governor urged scholars, students, and the public to actively participate in rediscovering and presenting India's history with clarity and authenticity. He called for a collective effort to ensure that historical understanding is based on evidence and a balanced perspective. The function was presided over by Mayor V. V. Rajesh and attended by prominent personalities including former Goa Governor Adv P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, Justice K. P. Balachandran, historian Dr. T. P. Sankaran Kutty Nair, and writer Dr. George Onakkoor.

Ambedkar's nation-first ideology is the need of the hour: Governor

       Dr. Ambedkar had put nation before everything else and his 'nation first' ideology is the need of the hour said the Hon'ble Governor of Kerala, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. He was presiding over a lecture 'Re-reading Dr. Ambedkar' by Justice Devan Ramachandran, Hon'ble Judge of Kerala High Court at Lok Bhavan today.

       The Governor remembered Dr. Ambedkar as the principal architect of our constitution who had risen above the circumstances of his birth and made valuable contributions to the nation as a whole. Dr. Ambedkar was a man of resolve and convictions, said the Governor. The Governor remarked that Dr. Ambedkar's contributions were above all partisan and sectarian interests and his greatness should not be confined into the frames of a particular caste or region as he worked for the whole of the nation.

        In his address Justice Devan Ramachandran said that Dr. Ambedkar had placed emphasis on education and he used knowledge as a powerful tool to fight the menace of caste based discrimination and the structural flaws that perpetrate such discrimination in the society. 'Knowledge dismantles denial of dignity' was the precept that made Dr. Ambedkar championed the cause of socio-economic equality to precede political equality in a free state. Justice Devan Ramachandran opined that the intellectual acumen of Dr. Ambedkar is not properly understood and that many of his prophecies were later proved right
