Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presided over a special Children's Day celebration at the Lok Bhavan, which turned vibrant with the presence of nearly forty differently-abled children. The young participants filled the Lok Bhavan with joy through songs, play and laughter.
The children who took part in the programme were from the Rehabilitation and Development Centre at Thadiyoor, run under the Mar Thoma Church. Emphasising that differently-abled children need opportunities, not sympathy, the Governor said:
"God has blessed these children with unique abilities. It is the responsibility of society to identify and nurture those talents. We must create opportunities for them; they will grow on their own," he said.
He added that for those working in the field of disability care, every day is Children's Day.
Recalling his experience in Goa, the Governor spoke about an institution he had overseen for differently-abled children. During Diwali, the children created decorative items and greeting cards which were put up for public sale, earning over ₹35,000 within four to five days.
"People recognised their talent and happily purchased the items. The entire amount was used for the welfare of the children," he said.
The Governor stressed that differently-abled children must be seen as an integral part of society and should never be ignored.
"Serving these children is an opportunity God has given us, and it is our duty to fulfil it," Arlekar added.
Former Goa Governor Adv. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, Fr. Sunil Mathew, Dr. K. K. Johnson and Adv. Abraham Mathew also spoke at the function.

ശിശുദിനത്തിൽ ലോക്ഭവൻ വേറിട്ട ആഘോഷത്തിന് സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിച്ചു ഗവർണർ രാജേന്ദ്ര വിശ്വനാഥ് ആർലേക്കർ. ദിവ്യാംഗരായ ഏകദേശം നാല്പതോളം കുട്ടികളോടൊത്ത് ലോക്ഭവൻ, ശിശുദിനാഘോഷത്തിൽ നിറഞ്ഞുനിന്നു. പാട്ടും കളിയും ചിരിയും പങ്കുവച്ച് കുട്ടികൾ സന്തോഷ നിമിഷങ്ങൾ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു.
മാർത്തോമാ സഭയുടെ കീഴിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന തടിയൂരിലെ റിഹാബിലിറ്റേഷൻ ആൻഡ് ഡെവലപ്മെന്റ് സെന്ററിലെ കുട്ടികളാണ് ലോക്ഭവനിൽ എത്തിയത്. ദിവ്യാംഗ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് കരുണയല്ല, അവസരങ്ങളാണ് ആവശ്യമെന്ന് ഗവർണർ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.
"ദൈവം ഇവർക്കു പ്രത്യേക കഴിവുകൾ നൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അവ കണ്ടെത്തി പ്രോത്സാഹിപ്പിക്കുക സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തമാണ്. നമ്മൾ അവർക്കായി അവസരങ്ങൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കണം; അവർ സ്വയം ഉയർന്ന് വരും." ഗവർണർ പറഞ്ഞു.
ദിവ്യാംഗ കുട്ടികളുടെ സംരക്ഷണ-പരിപാലന രംഗത്ത് പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് വർഷത്തിലെ ഓരോ ദിവസവും ബാലദിനമാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.
ഗോവയിൽ താൻ മേൽനോട്ടം വഹിച്ചിരുന്ന ദിവ്യാംഗ കുട്ടികളുടെ സ്ഥാപനത്തിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹം ഓർമ്മപ്പെടുത്തി. വിദ്യാലയത്തിലെ കുട്ടികൾ നിർമ്മിച്ച ദീപാവലി അലങ്കാരങ്ങളും, ആശംസാകാർഡുകളും പൊതുജനങ്ങൾക്ക് വിൽപ്പനയ്ക്കായി അവസരമൊരുക്കിയപ്പോൾ, കുറഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ 35,000 രൂപയുടെ വിറ്റുവരവ് ലഭിച്ചതായും അദ്ദേഹം വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
"ജനങ്ങൾ അവരുടെ കഴിവുകൾ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ് സന്തോഷത്തോടെ വാങ്ങി. മുഴുവൻ തുകയും കുട്ടികളുടെ ക്ഷേമത്തിനായി വിനിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടു," ഗവർണർ പറഞ്ഞു.
ദിവ്യാംഗ കുട്ടികളെ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ അവിഭാജ്യഘടകങ്ങളായി കണ്ട് അവരെ പിന്തുണയ്ക്കേണ്ടത് ഒരു മാനുഷിക കടമയാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ഓർമിപ്പിച്ചു.
"ഇവരെ സേവിക്കാനുള്ള അവസരം ദൈവം തന്നതാണ്; അത് നിർവഹിക്കേണ്ടത് നമ്മുടെ ബാധ്യതയാണ്," എന്നും ആർലേക്കർ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.
മുൻ ഗോവ ഗവർണർ അഡ്വ. പി.എസ്. ശ്രീധരൻ പിള്ള, ഫാ. സുനിൽ മാത്യു, ഡോ. കെ.കെ. ജോൺസൺ, അഡ്വ. ഏബ്രഹാം മാത്യു എന്നിവർ ചടങ്ങിൽ സംസാരിച്ചു.
