Education is a tool for social transformation: Governor

The honourable Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that education should be seen as a tool for social transformation and not merely as a tool to secure employment. He was delivering the convocation address at the Digital University of Kerala here today.

Addressing the graduating students, the Governor called upon them to look beyond personal achievements and reflect on their role in nation-building. "You will be judged by what you are doing for society," he remarked, urging students to view education as a tool for social transformation rather than merely a means to secure employment.

"The purpose of education requires recalibration. Is a degree meant only to seek a job or to simply enjoy life? Education must go beyond that — it must inspire service to society", the Governor said.

Commending the achievements of the Digital University Kerala, he described it as the pride of the state and among the best in the country. Citing an example from his tenure in Goa, he spoke about the benefits of digitization: "When the Legislative Assembly in Goa went paperless, the paper saved and trees were saved from cutting.. Digitization not only enhances efficiency but also protects our environment."

The Governor encouraged students to become "job givers rather than job seekers", and to embrace risk as a path to prosperity. "Indian youth often look for guaranteed poverty instead of risky prosperity. Take risks, innovate, and lead," he said.

Referring to the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Shri Arlekar expressed confidence that today's youth will play a vital role in transforming India into a developed nation by its centenary of independence.

He concluded by urging the students to find meaning in their degrees and medals by contributing to the nation's journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047.

The 03rd Convocation Ceremony of the Digital University Kerala was held at the Travancore Convention Centre here today.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം: വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം കേവലം ജോലി നേടുന്നതിനുള്ള ഒരു ഉപാധിയായി കാണാതെ, സാമൂഹിക പരിവർത്തനത്തിനുള്ള ഒരു ഉപകരണമായി കാണണമെന്ന് ബഹുമാനപ്പെട്ട ഗവർണർ ശ്രീ രാജേന്ദ്ര വിശ്വനാഥ് ആർലേക്കർ പറഞ്ഞു. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് കേരള ഡിജിറ്റൽ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയുടെ ബിരുദദാന ചടങ്ങിൽ പ്രസംഗിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

വ്യക്തിഗത നേട്ടങ്ങൾക്കപ്പുറം രാഷ്ട്ര നിർമ്മാണത്തിൽ തങ്ങളുടെ പങ്ക് എന്തായിരിക്കണമെന്ന് ആലോചിക്കാൻ ബിരുദം നേടിയ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ഗവർണർ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തു. "നിങ്ങൾ സമൂഹത്തിന് വേണ്ടി എന്ത് ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നതിനെ ആശ്രയിച്ചായിരിക്കും നിങ്ങൾ വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുക," അദ്ദേഹം അഭിപ്രായപ്പെട്ടു. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം കേവലം തൊഴിൽ സുരക്ഷയ്ക്കുള്ള മാർഗ്ഗമായി കാണാതെ, സാമൂഹിക പരിവർത്തനത്തിനുള്ള ഉപകരണമായി കാണാനും അദ്ദേഹം വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ഉപദേശിച്ചു.

"വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം പുനർനിർവചിക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ട്. ബിരുദം ജോലി തേടുന്നതിനോ, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ജീവിതം ആസ്വദിക്കുന്നതിനോ മാത്രമുള്ളതാണോ? നാം അതിനപ്പുറം ചിന്തിക്കണം – വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം സമൂഹത്തിന് സേവനം ചെയ്യാൻ പ്രചോദനമാവണം", ഗവർണർ പറഞ്ഞു.

കേരളഡിജിറ്റൽ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയുടെ നേട്ടങ്ങളെ പ്രശംസിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം, സ്ഥാപനത്തെ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ അഭിമാനമായും രാജ്യത്തെ മികച്ച സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിലൊന്നായും വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചു. ഗോവയിലെ തന്റെ ഭരണകാലത്തെ ഒരു ഉദാഹരണം അനുസ്മരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം ഡിജിറ്റൈസേഷന്റെ ഗുണങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് വിശദീകരിച്ചു. "ഗോവ നിയമസഭ പേപ്പർ രഹിതമായപ്പോൾ, പേപ്പറിന്റെ പാഴ്ചിലവ് ഒഴിവാക്കാന്‍മാത്രമല്ല, മരം മുറി തടയാനും സാധിച്ചു. ഡിജിറ്റേൈസേഷന്‍ കാര്യക്ഷമത വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുക മാത്രമല്ല, പരിസ്ഥിതിയെ സംരക്ഷിക്കാനും ഉപകരിക്കുന്നു."

വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ 'ജോലി അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് പകരം ജോലി നൽകുന്നവരായി' മാറാനും, വെല്ലുവിളികളെ (റിസ്‌ക്) സമൃദ്ധിയിലേക്കുള്ള പാതയിലെ സൂചകങ്ങളായി സ്വീകരിക്കാനും ഗവർണർ ഉദ്ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു. "ഇന്ത്യൻ യുവത്വം അപകടസാധ്യതയുള്ള സമൃദ്ധിക്ക് പകരം ഉറപ്പായ ദാരിദ്ര്യമാണ് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്. നിങ്ങൾ വെല്ലുവിളികൾ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുക, സ്വയം നവീകരിക്കുക, നേതൃത്വം നൽകുക," അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ വികസിത ഭാരതം 2047 എന്ന കാഴ്ചപ്പാടിനെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമർശിച്ച ഗവർണർ, സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന്റെ നൂറാം വർഷത്തിൽ ഇന്ത്യയെ ഒരു വികസിത രാഷ്ട്രമാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നതിൽ ഇന്നത്തെ യുവജനങ്ങൾ നിർണായക പങ്ക് വഹിക്കുമെന്ന് ആത്മവിശ്വാസം പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചു.

വികസിത ഭാരതം 2047 എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്കുള്ള രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ യാത്രയിൽ സംഭാവന നൽകുന്നതിനായി തങ്ങളുടെ ബിരുദങ്ങളും മെഡലുകളും അർത്ഥപൂര്‍ണ്ണമായി പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്താന്‍ അദ്ദേഹം വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തു.

കേരള ഡിജിറ്റൽ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയുടെ മൂന്നാമത് ബിരുദദാന ചടങ്ങ് ഇന്ന് തിരുവനന്തപുരം കാര്യവട്ടം ഗ്രീന്‍ഫീല്‍ഡ് സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിലെ ട്രാവൻകൂർ കൺവെൻഷൻ സെന്റെറിൽ വെച്ചാണ് നടന്നത്.
